Job Description *Main Responsibilities:

1. Provide developmental and supportive counseling services to school students.

2. Implements the discipline policy of the school.

3. Consults with teachers and administrators to assist in developing interventions and alternatives to facilitate students academic performance and emotional adjustment.

4. Liaise between school and home to ensure appropriate transition of students.

5. Available for crisis counseling at the discretion of the principal.


*Main Duties:

1. Provide counseling support services, through helping in the identification of behavior and learning needs that require specialized interventions, and contributing to the design and management of plans for intervention, where appropriate;

2. Participate in the school based teams that are formed to help address the needs of students who are struggling in behavior and/or academic achievement by recommending interventions for support and helping in the management of those plans, where appropriate;

3. Implement the school disciplinary policy and procedures where needed in a manner that is consistent with proactive measures taken to manage behavior at the school in accordance with the school philosophy and effective practices;

4. Provide growth support group counseling to improve self-confidence, interpersonal skills, help students to acquire problem solving techniques, decision making and coping skills, and behavior management.

5. Create and maintain records related to discipline and counseling provided by the Counseling Unit.

6. Where needed, provide written reports and follow-up meetings in a timely manner following assessments and any form of service provided to students who are referred for counseling.

7. Work collaboratively with other members of the Counseling Unit, school administration and teaching staff in the research and data collection regarding the nature of students strengths and needs, their educational implications and ways to enhance learning and interpersonal relations. Contribute to the design of intervention plans through this collaborative effort to address student needs;

8. Assess student functioning, both formally and informally, in home, school and community, identifying factors that may negatively impact his or her education while also assessing strengths.

9. When needed and as appropriate, attend classes to help in the identification of students who may need support and/or monitoring progress of students who had been referred to counseling.

10. Collaborate with the teaching staff, school administrators and parents in the implementation of intervention plans, providing support, as appropriate, for teachers and parents in implementation, monitoring progress, contributing to plan modification and assessment of results;

11. Assist in planning and delivering parent workshops that would contribute to more educated and engaged parents in the intelligence and behavior development of their children;

12. Provide family counseling on a limited basis to assist parents in understanding of child development.

13. Counsel parents with child rearing problems, interviewing the child and family to determine whether further action is required.

14. Refer parents to external help that provide medical, psychiatric, and other tests that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures.

15. Identify and provide intervention strategies for children and their families, including case management and crisis intervention.

16. Contribute to the implementation and expansion of the school-wide character development programs.

17. When appropriate, assist in planning and delivering staff in-service training.

18. Consult with teachers and serves as a referral agent.

19. Serve as member/consultant to the school guidance team.

20. Promote consistent school attendance.

21. Performs other related duties as assigned.


*Skills:

1. Bachelors degree in a relevant field. (Sociology, Social Worker, Psychology & Psychiatry)

2. 28 to 40 years old and in good physical health.

3. 3+ years social work/counseling experience, preferably in Qatar.

4. Fluency in English and Arabic, reading, speaking and writing.

5. Proven ability to effectively work with children and adults in a pleasant and cooperative manner

6. Perform responsibilities and tasks timely, accurately and with great attention to detail

7. Proactive with a positive attitude.

8. Able to operate with minimal supervision and self-motivated

9. Highly organized and able to multi-task.

10. Creativity, and ability to think out of the box

11. Works safely and establishes a safe environment; reacts quickly in emergency situations to maximize children safety.

12. Analyzes situations and takes appropriate action regarding routine/emergency procedural matters without immediate supervision.

13. Transferable residency or work permit
